How To Use Every Medium Yellow Bathroom Drillbrush

They are available in many different kits and combos, including our best selling kit; the Medium Yellow 3-piece 4-2-O.

But for those new to Drillbrush and the world of drill-powered scrubbing, all of these brushes can be daunting. Which brush do I use, which surfaces do they work best on, and how do I use the brush correctly?

Don’t fret, we’ll go through every Medium Yellow Drillbrush Power Scrubber and tell you how each of them work, what they can be used on, and advanced techniques you can use on your bathroom surfaces!

How to Use Medium Yellow 4 inch and 5 inch Flat Brushes

Medium Yellow 4 inch brush being used at an angle to clean grout lines.

Medium Yellow Drillbrush flat brushes are built for scrubbing level surfaces on walls, floors, and showers. Simply run the brush over tile, porcelain, or glass surfaces to scrub up grime, scum, and spots with ease!

Flat brushes come in two sizes; 4 inch and 5 inch. Both clean bathroom surfaces just as well, but the 4 inch is built for more compact surfaces around tubs and fixtures, while the 5 inch is better suited for large scale areas like floors and walls.

When using a flat Drillbrush, the best technique is to make sure the bristles are in full contact with the surface you are cleaning. Some Drillbrush users will accidentally lift up the brush or tilt it at an angle as they scrub, which can miss spots.

If you’re struggling to maintain contact with the surface using a standard drill, you can use a close-quarters drill to gain more leverage and keep the brush stable on the surface.

Another way to clean with a 4 inch or 5 inch is to tilt the brush at a 45 degree angle to get into grout lines and grooved surfaces. Tilting the brush allows for the bristles on the outer edge of the flat brush to This trick works great if you don’t have a Drillbrush Edge brush or if you need to scrub both

How to Use Medium Yellow Drillbrush Bullet-shaped Original Brushes

Medium Yellow Original brushes can clean corners and grooved surfaces liek shelves in showers.

Drillbrush’s Medium Yellow rounded bullet-shaped brushes are the backbone of drill-powered scrubbing. Literally! The first Drillbrush ever created by company founder and inventor Anthony LaPolla was a Medium Yellow rounded brush modelled after a toilet wand. As such, we call this style of brush an “Original.”

Original brushes excel at cleaning curved and contoured surfaces. In bathrooms, the Medium Yellow can scrub around the curves of bathtubs, showers, sinks, and toilet basins.

The best way to use an Original on a curved surface is to use the sides of the brush to clean. The bristles act in a sweeping motion that brushes away surface debris. When faced with a tighter corner, you can use the rounded tip to get in there and blast through any unsightly accumulation.

Avoid using the tip of the brush on flat surfaces, as it’s less efficient for scrubbing than the sides.

Another great use for the Original brush is for carpets and shallow grout and grooves. Using the sides of the brush on rugs and grippy bathmats can pull gunk and dirt out of the fibers and trenches.

There are two variations of the Original brush that are suited for one of its two primary functions. The Mini Original is a smaller version of the bullet brush designed for getting into smaller, tighter spaces. This brush leans into the corner cleaning aspect of the design and can be used in places too small for the Original like drain openings.

The Jumbo Original is a larger bullet-brush with a long silo-like shape. This brush gives users more surface area on the sides of the brush for large contoured surfaces like tub walls and shower floors.

How to Use Medium Yellow Drillbrush 2 inch Detail Brushes

2 inch Medium Yellow brushes can spot clean on small surfaces like tub overflow plates.

Drillbrush 2 inch Detail Brushes come in two forms; 2 inch Short and 2 inch Long. The brushes are the same diameter, but the Short has 1 inch long bristles while the Long has 1.5 inch bristles. Both brushes are built for scrubbing away spots and small messes on bathroom surfaces, but the bristle difference changes up the way you clean.

The 2 inch Short is useful on flat surfaces with small stuck on stains. Think toothpaste drip and soap rings on sink counters and tubs. The shorter bristles stay rigid when scrubbing, chipping away at the built up gunk, just make sure you keep the bristles in full contact with the surface for best effect.

The 2 inch Long on the other hand has more flexible bristles better suited for wrapping around small complex structures. 2 inch Long brushes can bend around faucets, tub overflow plates, shower heads, and bath chairs.

How to Use a Medium Yellow Drillbrush Edge Brush

Medium Yellow Edge brushes can clean bathroom tile grout.

Drillbrush Edge brushes are wheel-shaped scrubbers that have a thin strip of bristles on the outer edge. These brushes are designed to get deep into grout lines and grooves surfaces to lift out dirt and debris that other brushes might struggle to reach.

Edge brushes are extremely useful in the bathroom. The sheer amount of tile grout in most bathrooms is already a wonderland for the Edge brush, but add in non-slip surfaces like bath mats and shower shelves, as well as the grooves in shower door tracks, and you’ve got a recipe for a cleaner bathroom!

How to Use a Medium Yellow Drillbrush Cone-Shaped Corner Brush

Medium Yellow Cone-shaped Corner brushes have tapered bristles built to fit in 90 degree angles.

Cone-shaped brushes are small 2.5 inch diameter scrub brushes with a unique feature: tapered bristles!

The bristles are 2 inches long in the center of the brush, but are trimmed at a slant as they head outwards until you reach the edge, which has 1 inch long bristles in a cone-like shape. The purpose of this design is to allow the brush to seamlessly clean along 90-degree corner angles.

For the Medium Yellow version of this scrubber, that means easy scrubbing along countertop backsplashes, the spot between the tub rim and wall, and in corners around showers.

The best use practice for the corner brush is to wedge the tip into the angle so that the sloped bristles match the angle of the wall. Then, activate the drill and go in a straight line down the length of the surface. Corners work as well with the cone brush, just point it into the center of the corner and start scrubbing.

An advanced trick with the cone brush is using it to hit very thin grout lines. Due to its nature of having long flexible bristles, you make the bristles fan out when using the drill at a higher speed. This creates a thinner plane of bristles that can be used like an Edge brush for thin grout lines in a pinch.

How to Use a Medium Yellow Drillbrush 1 inch Detail Brush

Medium Yellow 1 inch brushes have long flexible bristles for cleaning complex surfaces like sink fixtures.

Another unique brush in the Drillbrush catalog is the 1in brush. Don't let the number fool you, while it's only 1 inch in diameter, it sports massive 2.5 inch long bristles!

Similar to the 2 inch Long, these brushes work by using their flexible bristles to weave around complex structures like faucets, spouts, handles, overflow plates, and bolts.

These brushes can also be used in large bottles and other surfaces too small for standard brushes, like soap dispensers, cups, and bottles.

Similar to the cone-shaped brush, you can also make the bristles fan out at high speeds to make a wheel-like brush for scrubbing small grout lines on tiled surfaces.

How to Use a Medium Yellow Drillbrush 7 inch Industrial Brush

7 inch Medium Brushes may be large than standard Drillbrush flat brushes, but they work the same way on Bathroom tile and grout.

7 inch Industrial brushes are Drillbrush’s biggest brushes and are used by cleaning professionals for heavy duty jobs. For now much brush you get, you get just as many unique ways to use it.

These brushes attach to rotary polishers and are designed to be used on flat surfaces like commercial bathroom floors, school hallways, and other large-scale surfaces.

To properly secure a 7 inch brush to your rotary polisher, an allen wrench and two set screws are included in the box. Screw the brush onto the polisher, insert the set screws in the holes on the side of the threaded nut, and use the wrench to tighten them.

The kit also comes with a threaded-to-quickchange adapter to allow for use in standard cordless drills.

When cleaning, much like the 4 inch and 5 inch brushes, be sure to keep the bristles flat and in contact with the floor for effective cleaning. Lifting the brush while scrubbing can result in missed spots.

Similar to the flat brushes, the 7 inch can also be used at a 45 degree angle to get inside grout lines on tile surfaces.

Other Tips and General Best Practices

Managing your drill speed is a great way to reduce splatter when scrubbing.

While using any Drillbrush product, we recommend using eye protection in the event of splatter, especially if you are working with cleaning chemicals.

To reduce splatter while scrubbing, use a slower drill speed or use a cleaning paste that is less likely to fling when scrubbing. You can read more about splatter management here.

To better maintain your brushes so they last longer, exercise switching your drill rotation every so often when you scrub. This can be toggled with a small switch on your drill. Switching direction will help keep the bristles straight, as over time bristles can bend in one direction. You can learn about more ways to extend the life of your brushes here.
