How Long Does Drillbrush Power Scrubber Last?
As the original name in drill-powered scrubbing, Drillbrush has long held itself to the standard of making the highest quality brushes possible. That means using our high inspection standards and quality manufacturing partners to make brushes that are built to last.
But how long do Drillbrush products last?
That can depend on the product, what applications the brushes are being used for, and how you care for them, but the answer is longer than one would expect! In a world of cheap disposable scrubbers, we’ve had customers report going several years before needing a replacement.
We also receive very few reports of brushes breaking or failing; usually only a handful a year due to a stray defect or misuse. That’s a whole lot better than some brush brands that break on the first spin (and that’s no hyperbole. We’ve tested them.)
We’ll go over the lifespan of Drillbrush products, how they stack up against competing brands, and several habits and life hacks you can use to prolong the life of your brushes.
What Affects Durability
Bristles stiffness, application, and proper care can affect brush longevity.
The question of “how long does a Drillbrush last” doesn’t have a concrete answer because it truly depends on which brush and what it’s being used for.
Failures rarely occur in the block of the brush. Our proprietary shaft doesn’t spin out and the polypropylene block has high manufacturing standards to make sure it's consistent and sturdy. So long as the brush is being operated under proper circumstances while adhering to the maximum 1600 RPM limit.
Usually a need for a replacement comes from the bristles, which is only natural in high surface friction cleaning like drill-powered scrubbing. However, our bristles are made of tough non-scratch nylon that can stave off the wear and tear better than other products, resulting in more cleaning sessions.
With four unique bristle stiffnesses, the type of bristle and what it cleans can affect its longevity. A sturdy brush being used sparingly on light stains can last ages, while a soft-bristled brush being used daily on tough messes can see a shorter timespan.
Most cleaning tasks fall somewhere in the middle. From our experience, a Medium Yellow brush (our flagship and most popular product) being used semi-regularly on common bathroom stains (its primary use-case) can last for one to three years without needing a replacement, which is great when considering most common household scrubbers and sponges need to be replaced a few times a year.
Every cleaning task is different, but whatever you use it on, it’ll outlast other options on the market.
Drillbrush Lasts Than Competitors
Cheap competitor brushes (left) fail quickly due to suboptimal construction, where as Drillbrush products (right) hold up under the same pressure.
You get what you pay for, and when you pay next to nothing for a budget brush, you get nothing in return.
Over the years, Drillbrush has seen many low cost scrubbers hit the digital marketplaces and occasional store shelves. We would often have to acquire a brush being misleadingly marketed as ours and provide proof to online stores that it’s not ours, and a sure fire way is through a stress test.
We run both a Drillbrush and a competing brush on a carpet with maximum pressure applied to see if the shaft holds up, like we do in this test against Dr. Brush. Most competing brushes failed immediately, with the shaft spinning out after only a second or two. Some would last a little longer, but spin out after around ten or so seconds. Drillbrush products, on the other hand, rarely if ever spun out due to our proprietary design.
In fact, our stainless steel shafts on Drillbrush products are so durable, a customer sent us a Medium Green 5 inch brush that they used on industrial equipment that spins significantly faster than what the brush is designed to handle. While the brush was definitely worse for wear with gnarled bristles and a twist in the shaft, the shaft itself still didn’t spin out of the block.
Not only do cheaper brushes fail the shaft test, they’ve surprised us in the many other ways they exhibit their lack of quality. We’ve received competitor brushes that had the bristle fall out and flay immediately, brushes with gouges and chips in the block, and one that arrived with a bizarre powder on it that everyone in the office was hesitant to touch.
Drillbrush products are built tough to handle professional grade messes. That’s why we’re trusted by professional cleaners, custodial workers, and large firms like Purina, Carmax, and several branches of the US Armed Forces. If they’re tough enough for that, they’re tough enough to handle everyday household messes!
How to Keep Your Brushes Pristine
Cleaning out your Drillbrush products is a great way to prolong the effectiveness of your brushes.
Drillbrush products are already pretty durable on their own, but there are several practices Drillbrush users can do to prolong the life of their brushes even further.
Bristles can be kept nice and straight by alternating the direction you clean. If you use the brush in only one direction, it can cause the bristles to bend over time. By periodically switching drill rotation, it’ll keep the bristles pointed in the right direction.
Another great way to keep your brushes working at peak efficiency is to clean them out after use. Leaving the brush messy can reduce the ability for the nylon bristles to scrub effectively and can leave your brush all gross and unsuited for cleaning surfaces.
Cleaning out your brushes with soap and water, or at least giving them a quick rinse after use, is a great way to keep your brushes from retaining unwanted build-up. Drillbrush scrubbers are also dishwasher safe!
To dry, you can just let them air dry, or you can do it the fun way by slotting it into a drill and letting it rip, flinging the water out. Just make sure you do that outside!
Storing your brushes properly can also have a positive effect on their lifespan. Avoid placing brushes in confined spaces or under heavy objects that can crush and deform the bristles. If you have the original packaging, that can be a great way to keep your brushes stored and organized.
