A Brush So Great, We Put It In 100s of Kits! - 4 inch Drillbrush Spotlight

The Drillbrush line of drill-powered cleaning brushes has plenty of eye-catching purpose-built scrubbers that get people talking.

The wheel-shaped Edge brush uniquely has bristles around the outside in a ring to clean grout lines, the Jumbo Original is an elongated rounded scrubber that can tackle both flats and corners, and the 1 inch Long is a small brush with giant tendril-like bristles for engulfing messes on complex surfaces.

It’s fun to highlight those wild, one-of-a-kind scrubbers, but we should also show some love to the standard fare of the Drillbrush catalog. Those trusty, reliable, general purpose scrubbers that may not turn heads, but deliver a consistent shine time after time!

One such brush is the 4 inch flat brush, a standard disc-shaped scrubber used for scrubbing level household surfaces. While the 4 inch may be a basic scrubber, it’s performance is anything but! This brush is one of Drillbrush’s earliest products, is a staple in some of our most popular brush kits, and has a few tricks up its sleeve that make it more than just a standard scrubber.

So today, we’ll shine a spotlight on our trusty 4 inch brush and show off everything it can clean!

About the 4 inch

The 4 inch brush is named so because of its 4 inch brush diameter. The brush features tightly packed clusters of 1 inch long non-scratch nylon bristles inside a round polypropylene plastic block.

Like most Drillbrush products, the 4 inch brush has a molded-in 1/4inch quickchange shaft that fits all standard cordless drills and impact drivers.

The 4 inch brush is available in all six colors and four stiffnesses offered by Drillbrush. The Soft White 4 inch is great for household and automotive surfaces, the Stiff Red and Ultra Stiff Black versions can handle tough outdoor stains on grills, siding, and masonry, and the Medium Yellow, Green, and Blue brushes cover everything else in the bathroom, kitchen, and pet sectors, respectively.

The first Drillbrush product was the bullet-shaped Original brush, created by car wash owner Anthony LaPolla in 2005 as a way to clean his customer’s rims without hand scrubbing. While not the first, the 4 inch brush was an early addition to the Drillbrush line, appearing in kits like the 4-O and 4-2-O as a way to cover areas where the Original was less optimal; flat surfaces.

The 4 inch brush has gone on to be a well-used brush by Drillbrush fans for its general purpose utility. Not only does the 4 inch appear in plenty of kits, it actually is the most common Drillbrush product you can find, appearing in around 180 kits as of this writing.

What the 4 inch Can Clean

An Ultra Stiff Black 4 inch brush scrubbing gristle off a grill hood.

The 4 inch brush is one of the more versatile scrubbers in our line-up and is an excellent go-to choice for most tasks.

The 4 inch brush’s bread and butter is flat surfaces like tables, windows, and counter tops. The circular scrubbing motion allows it to thoroughly scrub kitchen surfaces, bathroom tile, and automotive glass.

This brush works particularly well on surfaces that are too small for the 5 inch, like refrigerator shelves, some outdoor siding, and vehicle interiors. However, the 4 inch can do just about anything a 5 inch brush can do if you need it for spots and messes on floors, tubs, showers, and countertops.

Flat brushes like the 4 inch work wonders on carpets, as they scrub deep into the fibers and can pick up deep set hair and pet fur.

Stiffer versions of the 4 inch brush can be used on stubborn outdoor surfaces and the Ultra Stiff Black 4 inch is tough enough to remove baked-on gristle from grill hoods and ovens.

Tilting a 4 inch brush at an angle allows it to scrub inside grout lines.

You can also use a 4 inch brush on grout lines and grooves by holding the brush at a 45 degree angle and using the edge of the bristles to get in there. You learn more about grout cleaning techniques in this article.

4 inch brushes can also be attached to Drillbrush 5 inch and 7 inch extensions, extending their reach. While brushes like the Original are more suited for extensions, there are some good applications for the 4 inch, like using a Medium Blue to clean the bottom of a home aquarium

Kits That Feature the 4 inch

A Drillbrush 4-piece 4 inch Brush Set is one of nearly 180 kits to feature that 4 inch brush.

Because of its sheer versatility and range, the 4 inch brush is one of the most common brushes featured in Drillbrush kits next to only the rounded Original. It’s probably easier to list the kits that DON’T feature the 4 inch. You can find every kit with a 4 inch brush here, but for the sake of brevity, we’ll only go over a few kits that are built around the 4 inch in depth.

The most notable and popular 4 inch kit is the 4-2-O, which sees it paired with an Original Corner brush and a 2 inch Short detailer. This gives users a tool for flats, corners, and small spots; three of the most common surfaces faced when cleaning.

The 4 inch brush is a common choice for compact Drillbrush 2-piece kits, usually paired with a corner brush like the Original or Mini Original

The 4 inch plays an important role in the 4-C-O kit, as it’s the sole flat surface representative in a corner-focus kit, featuring an Original for standard corners and the Cone brush for tight 90 degree angles. The 4 inch’s presence turns a niche specialty kit into a box set that can cover most surfaces.

For a focus on flat surfaces, the 542 kits cut out the Original brush and offer both a 4 inch and 5 inch brush to play with. The 4 inch is commonly paired with the 5 inch brush in kits for both small and large form cleaning, like in our 542O and Ultimate kits. You can even get a kit that is made up entirely of 4 inch brushes

And of course, like all of our other brushes, the 4 inch brush is available for purchase as a standalone single brush independent from any kit.
